Crimea's people chose to join Russia because they accepted the same case made by the British Government for Scotland to stay in the Union, according to the Kremlin's ambassador in London.
Writing in The Telegraph, Alexander Yakovenko described Crimea's vote to reunite with Russia as an expression of "self determination" which was "guaranteed by the UN Charter and cherished by Britain when it comes to Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands".
